How to use toms as a bassline

#AudiotentTip 92. Toms for Bass.

Instead of choosing a synth as a bassline, try an alternative source. Tom sounds are particularly great for this. They tend to have a fast pitch envelope which adds extra punch and groove to the low-end.
First, import a tom sample into your chosen sampler, then pitch it down using your MIDI keyboard until it fits in harmonically with your track.
Short tom samples tend to work better, as they get stretched when pitching down. Amp envelope is your friend here, use it to fine-tune the length of your tom.
