#AudiotentTip 143. Parallel Bass Distortion.
One way to add some grit and character to your bass is to use distortion. However, distorting bass can also make the low & low mid frequencies muddy. To get around this we use a parallel distortion technique.
First, send your bass to an aux channel. Next, insert a band pass filter to the aux you just created to narrow the frequency range for distortion. Now add your distortion plugin of choice, amp distortions work great too.
Finally insert another eq to tame unnecessary frequencies. Blend this in with the original bass to get lots of character and growl.
